Scripture Union Daily Guide 30th April 2020 – Praise and prayer

Outline: This passage begins with praise to God (vv.1–5) and it continues with prayer for help against his enemies (vv.6–13). David sang this song of triumph in praise of God’s great love and remarkable faithfulness (v.4). We also need to praise God not only when amazing experiences occur in our lives, families and nations but also when we discover that we can achieve more with God in our pursuit than by our human efforts.

Praise should be our daily lifestyle, an expression of our confidence in God and proclamation of his glory for all to see (vv.2,3 & 5). Moab, Edom and Philistia were archenemies of Israel, but David, was confident that with God’s help they will be defeated. So, he prayed for God’s help. He did not rely on his strength or human help (vv.9–13).

Similarly, we must not rely on human wisdom or strength; instead, we must seek God’s face in fighting our battles. This however should not be limited to times of crisis. It should be a life style, for we need God even in times of peace. We must learn to be proactive.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

In our sorrow to cheer and sustain,
That soon in the mansions of Heaven,
We shall meet with our loved ones again.

Bless?d hope, blessed hope,
