Opening Prayer: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.
Scripture: Ezekiel 24:15-27
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
Our merciful God takes the pain to warn His people again and again before He sends judgment because of His compassionate nature. He employed various methods to convey His warnings. His desire in doing this is that all should repent and be saved (2 Peter 3:9 cf. Ezekiel 18:31-32).
Observe that despite their rebellion, God’s people still delighted in the Temple (v.21)! It is possible for some Christians to be backsliding and still delight in the fellowship of brethren because it has become a social place for them and not because they have good relationship with God. This is very dangerous and should be discouraged! Notice the high price the prophet paid in order to convey God’s message to His people (vs.18, 22, 27). To suddenly lose one’s wife (the apple of one’s eye) is a disaster on its own.
To be barred from mourning the loss doubles the tragedy. Why would this woman die (vs.24, 27)? What a price for her to pay! Quite often, God expects us to share in the suffering of the people to whom we are ministering. We must be prepared to rise above self-pity and proclaim God’s message.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Remember in your prayers today those who have lost their spouses and/or family members especially in the course of ministry.
• Pray that the various efforts at communicating the gospel of Christ will yield immense results in the souls to be won.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 46:1-2; Ezek. 27-29; John 14
