OUTLINE: God’s justice extends to Tyre, the queen of the Ancient world in international trade and politics. In addition to her crime described in v.2, Tyre was guilty of other crimes. See them in Isaiah 23:6-9 and Joel 3:4-8. Tyre was rich in trade partners, but God would bring many enemies to attack her and finally bring Nebuchadnezzar with a huge army to destroy the city. The destruction would be so great that neighbouring nations would be overwhelmed (vs.15-18).
A nation that exalts itself above God is surely on its way to destruction, because God does not share His glory with anyone. Tyre had fortified cities and skilled sailors, but all these came to naught when God arose against it.
The message for Tyre should serve as a warning to anyone or nation that trusts in technological advances and computerized security systems more than God (Psalm 20:7; Proverbs 21:31). A nation that submits to the rule and authority of God is assured of the safety and security of her people and wealth.
