TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Amos 7-9
TEXT: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth.” and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.” – John 10 :11 – 12.
Omega Fire Daily Devotional 21 September 2021 Rhema for Living Message:
Another personality in scripture that operated in the spirit of the good shepherd was David. In fact his experience while taking care of his father’s flocks is just like the good shepherd and his absolute commitment to the care of the sheep.
He said to Saul in 1 Samuel 17 :34 – 36; while trying to convince him of his ability to go up against Goliath, “Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.” From the story he told Saul, you can see that he saw his father’s flock as his, not considering his own life but that of the flock when he went after the lion and the bear. And that is an extraordinary quality of the good shepherd.
Operating in such spirit does not necessarily mean that one should not care for his life but that of the sheep. No! It means just like the good shepherd whose own are the sheep cares for the sheep and stands all forms of risk to secure the sheep, so also others should emulate when things are committed into their hands. Seeing oneself as a hireling makes one operates as one such as the servant with the one talent in Matthew 25 :24 – 28.
In Apostle Paul, you see the spirit of the good shepherd. He was all out for souls preaching the gospel to the Gentiles at all cost. His sole mission was to please the master not putting his life before Him. He said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1 :21.
It is either Christ or Christ and that is the spirit of true stewardship.
I pray for you today, may the Lord find you one.
PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, help me to operate in the spirit of true stewardship, in Jesus name.
