Topic: The Lord judges and restores His people!

Opening Prayer: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.

Scripture: Jeremiah 33:1–11

• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Outline: Imagine that you have just declared the truth to your leader and you are put in prison or punished in some harsh way; and suddenly you hear God saying: “Go and tell him?”! Jeremiah must have had mixed feelings: a word of assurance that the Lord would do what he said (v.2); but also going back to King Zedekiah to tell him that the city would not be spared as the Lord had said. Iit would be filled with dead bodies because of their sin (vv.4–5; cf. 32:1–5)!

Notice in v.3 that God is committed to revealing his plans/purposes to his faithful servants. How do you think God feels about the condition of the church in many conflict–ridden nations of Africa today (vv.6–11)? God does not leave his people destitute forever but remembers his glory and restores them for his name’s sake. Many of the suffering and disaster that we suffer, especially in developing nations, result from sin and corruption at individual, community or national levels.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application
• Reflection: Think of some things you can do personally to hasten God’s promise of restoration in your country (vv.10–11).

• Pray for God to restore the fortunes of our nations which are battered because of corruption and wickedness.
• Pray for the conversion of unbelieving members of your family and extended family. Pray that God will send them witnesses they can believe.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 6:2
